Agenda:

09:00 - 09:30 Registration and Coffee

09:45 - 10:00 Opening Remarks and Welcome

10:00 - 11:15 Now for the Science Bit

Through Project ICARUS, ITM has engaged with many eminent scientists and academics working in the area of travel and climate change. In this session we hear the thoughts of these people on the impact of business travel on the environment, what the ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) hopes to achieve and what needs to be done.

Speakers: Tim Johnson - Aviation Environment Federation and David Reaney - Office of Government Commerce.

11:15 - 11:45 Coffee/Tea

11:45 - 12:45 Breaching the Road Block

The panel will present their views on the barriers to CO2 reduction including the issue of a single, precise measurement accross air, hotel and ground transportation and the role emerging markets will play in increasing emissions.

Speakers: Andrew Fish - TRX Technology, Bernard Harrop - IG Management and Jonathan Green - JMP Consultants and Keith Mason - Cranfield University.

12:45 - 13:45 Lunch

13:45 - 15:00 The Second False Dawn?

Videoconferencing was supposed to change our lives 10 years ago but never did. We ask if videoconferencing, tele-conference, webcasting and Second Life really offer alternatives to companies wishing to reduce costs and emissions and create efficiencies or whether the realities are that minimal impact will occur?

Speakers: Cathy Ham - BT, Jean Leston - WWF, Kevin Stavers - MVision and Jonathon Counsell - British Airways.

15:00 - 15:30 Coffee/Tea

15:30 - 17.00 Combining Economics and Environment - "All Change"

This session seeks to explore the complimentary effects of reducing emissions and reducing costs in this economically challenging time. Where do the synergies lie across both policies and where does conflict lie? What are the best steps to reduce emissions and costs together and how do you get stakeholder buy-in? Once the policy changes are agreed, what are the barriers to change and how might you overcome them?

This last session of the day is a must for anyone wrangling with introducing both environmental reduction and cost control.

Speakers: Mark Avery - PricewaterhouseCoopers and Lynn Basford - Centre For Transport Psychology

17.00 - 17.15 Closing Remarks
